BioGraphic banner is made to degrade quickly in landfills. Depending on the activity of the landfill it will degrade in as little as 9 months, and up to 5 years in less favorable conditions. By comparison, similar printing films for digital prints take about 400 years to degrade. BioGraphic banner interacts with the microorganisms that are present in landfills and most natural environments on the planet. Tests show that BioGraphic Banner degrades completely into carbon dioxide, water, and methane. According to EPA 6010 metals analysis and EPA 8260 soil matrix it does not produce any toxic residue harmful to living organisms in land or water. When degrading anaerobically, it gives off methane that can be harvested as a source of energy (ASTM 5511-94 protocol for anaerobic degradation).
